Full Blown Kirk Fan Letters, Scene Magazine October 16-22, 1997 VOL. 28 NO. 42 I just wanted to take the time to say thanks to Krista of Full Blown Kirk for putting on one hell of a show at Peabody's Friday, October 3. After hearing all the hype about them, I HAD to go check them out to see if it was all true ... What I got was one of the best shows I think I've ever experienced, local or otherwise. They're one of the few bands in the area that turned out to be all they were built up to be, and I really don't see them staying unsigned a whole hell of a lot longer. The only complaint I could possibly have about the entire show would be some of the comments made by a few male members of the audience in regard to their performance: you'd think in 1997, music would matter more than appearances. Thanks. Christian Faust Akron |
Good Advice Letters, Scene Magazine December 23-30, 1997 VOL. 28 NO. 52 In regards to the Vickie Wallace letter concerning the unoriginality to the local music scene, I can only really think to say that I'm sorry that her radio only gets one station and that she is so crippled that she is unable to make it out to any of the many local clubs that support the local music scene. Sure, the "Inner Sanctum" and [WENZ] may suck when it comes to offering up anything original. Unfortunately this is true when it comes to all commercial radio stations. They have to please their mindless audiences in order to make money ... therefore, they all stick to standard formats giving us bland sound-alike tunes all day long. That's just the way it works. That's life. Get used to it. But, in case you didn't know, no one is FORCING you to go and see Cyde and Insect, just because they are played on the "Inner Sanctum." If you don't like a band ... DON'T GO AND SEE THEM. It's really that easy. You are not a lemming. Or are you? There are literally hundreds of local bands playing out nightly in Cleveland bars and clubs that go unnoticed by Pat The Producer. Please remember that Pat is not God. Trust me, I'm sure of this. In regards to your concerns over the reviews that you've read in SCENE, well, Vickie, sorry to inform you that the writers of the reviews are also not gods. They're just doing their jobs. Remember ...you actually are allowed to form an opinion of your own. Welcome to America. Don't be frightened. So please, Vickie, turn off your radio (or at least switch the station to a non-commercial station) and get off your ass and go out and see other bands. (Notice to SCENE readers, Vickie will be the one in the bar wearing the 107.9 T-shirt and 107.9 sweat pants, along with her 107.9 hat and 107.9 sunglasses, holding an autographed picture of Pat in one hand and a copy of SCENE in the other.) I'm sure that you will find that there is an original music scene out there. Try Full Blown Kirk, Jericho Turnpike and Somasonic, just to name a few. And please, Vickie, don't be so depressed. That's just so way trendy and unoriginal. Barry Ries Parma |
